The mainline, three layers: surface → middle → truth

Surface · a reason to open shop

Dave gets half-tricked by Duff and Bancho into dive-by-day, serve-by-night. The surface is a warm management comedy — its job is lowering your guard.

Middle · the Sea People and the murals

A Sea People village sits deep in the hole. Their murals repeat one theme: the world above and the world below were once connected. Dr. Bacon's readings drift from scholarship — he starts believing the murals are record, not myth. Your footing slips here.

Truth · what the Blue Hole is

The hole is no ordinary cave. It is the seam where two worlds mesh — the deeper the fauna, the less they belong to this era or this sea. The thing at the bottom (the codex's last page) is the hinge. Every dive Dave takes descends in both worlds at once.

Five lore anchors (the archaeology crew's finds)

AnchorObservationReading
The murals' rainEvery mural paints rainThe weather of the connected era. The DLC's rain-doubling is the same mechanic echoing (crew conclusion, unofficial)
Bacon's studyThe globe is missing a pieceThe missing patch is the hole's exact shape. Deliberate prop work — the seam under magnification is not a texture glitch
Bancho's pastA lineage never spoken ofHis knife form appears in exactly one Sea People mural. The most contested anchor on this page (debate box below)
Duff's forgeA fire that never diesIt does not burn wood. The crew magnified three fuel textures — the closest match is deep-sea phosphor
Dave's health barThe deep drains itOfficially "water pressure". The crew's question: why are the 40m fish fine while Dave bleeds? — because the fish are residents below; Dave is a visitor

Debate: is Bancho one of the Sea People?

Mural camp (yes)

  • The mural knife-bearer's stance mirrors Bancho at the pass
  • He never eats his own fish (a Sea People totem taboo?)
  • Zero curiosity about the deep — because he knows the answer

🛡 Text camp (no)

  • No line ever links Bancho to the Sea People
  • The "mirrored stance" is every cook's stance (countered with real kitchen photos)
  • The devs leave gaps; Bancho's gap is his past, not his bloodline

Three years unresolved. The DLC added a chip: an unclaimed knife set by the campfire. Both camps immediately claimed it.

⚠️ The bottom half decodes the ending fully. If you want to assemble it yourself, close this now.

The ending, two readings (FULL SPOILERS)

READING AReading A · Resolution (literal)

After the final fight the hole settles; the Sea People and the surface reach a new arrangement; the shop opens as usual. The credits shot: a beach barbecue, everyone in frame. Literalists: the anomaly closed; life goes on.

READING BReading B · The seam stays (structural)

Three details: 1) on the horizon behind the credits group photo, a silhouette no island map owns; 2) after "peace", fish prices fall across the board — the anomalies stopped appearing; 3) but the codex's last page changed from "???" to "no current observations". The hole did not close — it simply stopped being open TO DAVE. The hinge remains; it just no longer needs a visitor. The silhouette is the next seam opening.

No sides taken here. One reminder though: this studio's next-game teaser image is exactly an unknown silhouette on a horizon.
